Basic course endoscopy and sonography for students

Participation in the practice. Every day more than 20 endoscopies (gastroscopies and colonoscopies) and approx. 30 ultrasound examinations are conducted, which you attend. You accompany the patients before, during and after the respective examination including the brief recording of the anamnesis, concomitant diseases and concomitant medication, indication for the endoscopy as well as observation and discussion of the video results in each case during and after the examination with me. You make a brief log of your activities on a sheet which I prepared as a record of your routine participation and as a requirement for the certificate, which you receive at the end of the week.

Timetable: The proper implementation of this course requires an allocation of a maximum of two participating persons in each case per calendar week. The course includes at least 10 hours in order to meet the requirements of the faculty. Please bring along your student ID as evidence for your entitlement to participate in the course. As you will be immediately involved in patient care, you are herewith informed of the legal requirement concerning patient/physician confidentiality, which you are familiar with from your courses on medical rules of conduct. Course objective: This course provides you with the opportunity of participating in many endoscopies and sonographies. You will see the frequently arising problems, questions and clinical pictures, which are diagnosed with these methods. I will explain the clinical pictures. In addition to the typical course of events of the examinations, you will have the opportunity of becoming acquainted with the dose rate, course and effect of today’s common sedation.
